Adani Group Announces $100 Billion Investment to Build Renewable-Powered Sovereign AI Data Infrastructure in India by 2035

Adani Group has announced a USD 100 billion direct investment to build renewable-energy-powered, hyperscale AI-ready data centres across India by 2035. The initiative aims to establish India’s sovereign AI backbone and position the country as a global leader in the emerging Intelligence Revolution.

The investment is expected to catalyse an additional USD 150 billion across related sectors, including server manufacturing, advanced electrical infrastructure, sovereign cloud platforms, and semiconductor and compute ecosystems. Together, this could create a USD 250 billion AI infrastructure ecosystem in India over the next decade.

Chairman Gautam Adani stated that the world is entering a transformative Intelligence Revolution, and nations that control both energy and compute will define the future. He emphasised that India will be a global creator and exporter of intelligence infrastructure, not merely a consumer of AI technologies.

Building on AdaniConneX’s existing 2 GW national data centre capacity, the group plans to scale up to 5 GW, creating one of the world’s largest integrated AI data centre platforms.

Strategic partnerships include Google for a gigawatt-scale AI data centre campus in Visakhapatnam; Microsoft for data centre collaborations across Hyderabad and Pune; and Flipkart for the development of a second high-performance AI data centre. Discussions are also underway with other global technology leaders for additional hyperscale campuses.

The AI data centre expansion will be powered by green energy from Adani Green Energy, including the 30 GW Khavda renewable energy project, one of the largest renewable energy projects in the world. The group also plans to invest an additional USD 55 billion in renewable expansion, including large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), to ensure competitively priced, carbon-neutral power for energy-intensive AI workloads.

The integrated model will combine renewable power generation, transmission and grid resilience, hyperscale AI compute, liquid cooling systems for high-density GPUs, and dedicated compute capacity for Indian Large Language Models (LLMs). Significant GPU capacity will be reserved to support Indian startups, research institutions, and deep-tech innovation.

To reduce global supply chain risks, the group will co-invest in domestic manufacturing of high-capacity transformers, power electronics, grid systems, and industrial thermal management solutions. This aligns with India’s push toward technological self-reliance and digital sovereignty.

The group will also collaborate with leading academic institutions to introduce AI Infrastructure Engineering curricula, applied AI research labs, and national fellowship programs to address India’s AI skills gap and build long-term capability in energy-compute infrastructure.

With AI workloads becoming increasingly energy-intensive, the integration of green energy and compute positions India strategically in the global AI race. This initiative represents one of the most ambitious national-scale AI infrastructure commitments globally.
