Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited, and Noida Power Company Limited have secured the top three positions in the Power Finance Corporation’s discom rankings for FY25, reaffirming their leadership among electricity distribution companies in India. The rankings were announced in the latest report released during the Bharat Electricity Summit.
According to the report, Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited ranked fourth, followed by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), Thrissur Corporation Electricity Department (Kerala), Assam Power Distribution Company Limited, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, and TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited. A total of 66 distribution companies participated in the evaluation.
The ranking framework assesses discoms on key parameters including institutional capability, financial sustainability, operational efficiency, and service delivery performance. The report aims to benchmark utilities and promote improvements in the power distribution sector through measurable performance indicators.
Addressing the summit, Union Power Minister Manohar Lal stressed the need for stronger coordination between the Centre and states to ensure affordable, reliable, and efficient power generation, transmission, and distribution across the country. He highlighted that rising energy demand and global uncertainties make energy security a priority, and called for increased per capita electricity consumption along with faster adoption of renewable energy sources.
The minister also pointed to nuclear power as a viable clean energy option that can support India’s long-term energy transition while ensuring supply stability.
