Q.How is FLIR building more than innovative technologies in today’s era?

The main building block for the innovation is of course the R&D. We’ve got teams in different parts of the world like Europe & USA who are dedicatedly involved in research and development. We are almost spending our 5 to 7% of global revenues on developing the new products and this gives us an edge over so many other things and that helps us to innovate new things on a continuous basis as well.

Q. Please give us an overview of ‘The FLIR T’ series camera which is for utilities ?

The FLIR T860 thermal imaging camera is a non-contact inspection tool with a 180° rotating optical block that allows users to safely and comfortably assess the condition of critical electrical and mechanical equipment in utility and manufacturing applications. With advanced features including unmatched temperature measurements down to -20°C, accuracy as good as 2%, 1-Touch Level/Span contrast enhancement, and laser–assisted autofocus, you’ll get highly accurate temperature measurements every time. Pair the T860 with a 6 FOV IR lens to perform inspections on small targets from long distances. The on-board Inspection Route system helps you record temperature data and imagery in a logical sequence for faster troubleshooting and repair. The T860 also features FLIR Ignite for automatic uploading of images directly from the camera to the cloud for easy, secure storage and sharing. Adding a FLIR T860 camera to a condition monitoring/ predictive maintenance program can help reduce maintenance costs, improve system efficiency and reliability, and prevent downtime due to outages.

Q. Can you please shed some light on some of the major milestones of FLIR in the last 2 years in terms of solutions for power utilities ?

Recently we have launched FLIR Si2-PD which is for Industrial Acoustic Imaging Camera for Partial Discharge Detection, it has the ability to pick the partial discharges from a distance of 200 meters away. Another recent launch is FLIR Routing. Earlier there was a problem in scanning whereas with the help of the FLIR Routing system you can load the sequence and monitor. Last but not the least, another innovation which is called Meter Link wherein you can connect different test and measurement equipment on one app upto 7 and then you can monitor. Q. Please tell us more about the latest software solution for utilities called Routing ‘and how it is different from other competitors in the market!

It prepares you for Inspection. This is an extremely special routing software, it hasn’t been launched by anyone in the market. It is the new innovation of the FlIR which is available for all the T series cameras we are launching now. Let’s delve deeper into the specifications of the FLIR’s Routing software - It simplifies surveys by pre-planning the route using FLIR Route Creator for FLIR Thermal Studio Pro. This software allows you to create lists of the assets you need to inspect at each location, organized in the most efficient order. Additionally, previous inspection images can be associated with each inspection point, and will be available for viewing, on camera, while the inspection is performed. Then, export the route in digital format and upload it to a FLIR thermal camera running Inspection Route mode*. You can also export the file in a readable file format and print it as an inspection checklist.
