REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a subsidiary of REC Limited under the Ministry of Power, has transferred the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the Khavda V-A Power Transmission Project to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL). This marks the first High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission project to be awarded via the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process.
The project involves the development of two HVDC terminal stations, each with a 6,000 MW capacity, located at KPS2 and Nagpur. These stations will be linked by a +800 kV HVDC bipole line extending over 1,200 km. Moreover, the project includes the installation of six 1500 MVA, 765/400 kV Interconnecting Transformers (ICTs) at Nagpur, along with other related infrastructure. The project is expected to be completed within 54 months.
The SPV was formally handed over by RECPDCL CEO T.S.C. Bosh to the Executive Director of PGCIL, with representatives from the Central Transmission Utility of India Limited present at the ceremony. The project is designed to strengthen the nation's transmission infrastructure and enable the efficient transfer of electricity across long distances.
