Lockdown constraints amid second wave of Covid-19 a downside risk for electricity demand: ICRA

Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar emphasized the requirement of coordination between power companies in generating and distributing electricity to ensure relief for consumers and prevent losses.
Speaking at the eighth annual Distribution Utility Meet (DUM) conference, Khattar stressed that energy will be a key driver in bolstering the economy and helping India achieve its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
He said, "All power companies should work together to ensure that consumers are not burdened and companies can avoid financial losses." Khattar also shed light on the importance of increasing power generation across the country and ensuring access to energy in all areas. He underlined the need to focus more on green and solar energy to reduce carbon emissions, pointing out that the current energy demand are 250 GW and it is constantly increasing.
The Union Minister suggested that states prioritize the setting up of nuclear power plants and stated that the government is actively working to reach a target of 500 GW of power from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030.
Uttar Pradesh's Energy and Urban Development Minister, AK Sharma, said that Ayodhya has been transformed into the country's first solar city, featuring a 40 MW solar power plant.
