On Friday, Adani Power Jharkhand Limited (APJL), a fully-owned subsidiary of Adani Power, reduced its power supply to Bangladesh by 50% due to outstanding bills amounting to $846 million, as reported by local media. According to a report, data from Power Grid Bangladesh PLC indicated that the Adani plant reduced its supply on Thursday night.
The media report also stated that Bangladesh experienced a power shortfall of over 1600 MW between midnight Thursday and Friday, as the 1496 MW plant was only generating 700 MW from a single unit.
Earlier, Adani Group's company had sent a letter to the Power Secretary, requesting that the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) settle the outstanding payment by October 30.
The letter, dated October 27, stated that if the bills remain unpaid, the company will be compelled to take corrective measures under the power purchase agreement (PPA) by suspending the power supply on October 31. The company stated that PDB has neither provided a letter of credit (LC) from Bangladesh Krishi Bank for $170.03 million nor settled the outstanding balance of $846 million.
