GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd., a major contributor to Essar's green mobility initiative, aims to introduce an additional 1,000 liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered trucks by March 2025. This move supports the decarbonisation of India's logistics sector, according to a senior company official. As part of its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070, India is promoting the use of super-chilled gas in heavy-duty long-haul trucking fleets as an alternative to diesel in order to reduce pollution.
Anand Mimani, CEO of GreenLine Mobility, said that the company currently operates a fleet of more than 500 LNG-powered trucks and plans to expand it by adding 1,000 additional trucks by March 2025. As corporates increasingly emphasise environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, GreenLine is ideally situated to meet the sustainable logistics solutions demand.
The company serves prestigious clients that include industry leaders such as Vedanta Group, JSW Steel & Cement, Tata Steel, Hindustan Zinc, Jindal Steel & Power, JK Lakshmi Cement, AMNS, Hindalco, Dalmia Cement, UltraTech Cement, GHCL, Reliance, Shell, Nestle, Castrol, and Sterlite Copper.
In a recent draft policy, the government has proposed transitioning one-third of long-haul trucks to LNG-powered vehicles by 2030. Each of Greenline’s 55-tonne LNG trucks is capable of transporting a 40-tonne payload and can cover distances of up to 1,200 kilometres on a single tank.
He further said that over the past two years, the GreenLine initiative has achieved a notable 30% decrease in CO2 emissions compared to traditional diesel vehicles, which is equivalent to a substantial reduction of 6,722 tonnes in carbon emissions.
