The Coal Ministry has reported an increase in coal production during the current fiscal year, elevating the total coal production to 370.67 million tonnes (MT) by August 25, 2024.

According to the Ministry of Coal, this indicates a substantial increase of 7.12 percent year-on-year (YoY) in comparison to the production of 346.02 MT during the same period in FY 2023-24.

In addition to the rise in production, the total coal dispatch has also experienced a significant increase. As of August 25, 2024, the cumulative coal dispatch for FY 2024-25 stood at 397.06 MT, indicating a growth of 5.48 percent compared to the 376.44 MT dispatched during the same period last year.

This increase reflects continuing efforts to meet the growing demand for coal in various sectors, especially the power industry. The power sector, which remains the largest consumer of coal in the country, has witnessed a cumulative dispatch of 325.97 MT until August 25, 2024.
