Haryana Relaxes Norms; Consumers Don’t Need to Pay for Electricity Transformers

23 Jul 2024

In an effort to ease the burden on the farming community, no charges will be imposed for the replacement and maintenance of power transformers. "The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) changed how they pay for replacing and fixing distribution transformers in their fourth update to the Electricity Supply Code Regulations, 2014, notified on January 15, 2024," an official statement said on Friday.

Thereafter, as the state government has instructed, no charges will be levied on consumers for replacing or repairing the transformer, regardless of the reason, including theft. According to the statement, earlier, in cases of damage/stolen transformers during the warranty period; consumers were required to deposit 20 percent of the cost and 10 percent of the cost of the transformer after the warranty period.

It has been stated that this provision primarily affects agricultural connections. Farmers, who are already confronted with numerous challenges, are required to share the expenses of replacing or repairing individual transformers, even in the event of theft. This requirement has put them under unnecessary financial pressure.
