Immediate action is needed to tackle India's carbon emissions: Javadekar

21 Feb 2024

Prakash Javadekar, a Rajya Sabha member, said that as the world struggles with serious climate disruption, immediate action is needed to reduce India's three percent contribution to carbon emissions.

At the National Movement of U75: Net Zero Workshop for the Northeast Region at the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG), on Tuesday, former Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change said that the brunt of climate change mostly affected poor people, and as a responsible nation, it is imperative for us to lead the change.

"India is making progress in reducing carbon emissions and achieving the G20 goals through increased adoption of electric vehicles, improved infrastructure, and energy efficiency," he said.

As guardians of the environment, Javadekar urged everyone to prioritize watershed development, advocating the mantra 'save water, generate water; save electricity, generate electricity.' He lauded initiatives such as the climate-tracking application and net-zero workshops for universities as exemplary manifestations of collective commitment to green initiatives and a sustainable future.
