Lockdown constraints amid second wave of Covid-19 a downside risk for electricity demand: ICRA

Yesterday, Union Minister RK Singh said that a huge investment of Rs 17.05 lakh crore is in the pipeline for the power and renewable energy sector, which has attracted investments of about Rs 16.93 lakh crore since 2014. Singh said that 80 GW of thermal power generation capacity is under construction, which we will have by 2030. He also said that approximately 99 GW of renewable energy is currently under construction.
In a conversation, Singh stated that Rs 16.93 lakh crore has been invested in the power and renewable energy sectors so far. The minister explained that the investment of Rs 16.93 lakh crore includes Rs 11.2 lakh crore in sectors like generation, distribution, and transmission, and Rs 5.73 lakh crore in the renewable energy sector.
