MoD signs Rs 2956 cr contract with BHEL to buy 16 Super Rapid Gun Mounts for the Navy

On Tuesday, the Defence Ministry signed an Rs 2956 crore deal with state-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to procure 16 advanced super rapid gun mounts (SRGMs) and accessories for the Indian Navy. The SRGM is a medium-calibre anti-missile and anti-aircraft defence weapon system that provides a sustained rate of fire and high accuracy.

The ministry said the advanced SRGM will be installed on serving and newly built ships of the Indian Navy. "The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with M/s Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Haridwar, on November 28 for the procurement of 16 upgraded Super Rapid Gun Mounts (SRGM) along with associated equipment and accessories for the Indian Navy under the Buy (Indian) category at a total cost of Rs 2956.89 crore," it said in a statement. Let it be known that advanced SRGM will be manufactured by BHEL at its Haridwar plant.
