Lockdown constraints amid second wave of Covid-19 a downside risk for electricity demand: ICRA

Bangalore Electricity Supply company (Bescom) has informed the high court that till march 30, a total of 1,911 distribution transformer centers (DTCs in Bengaluru have either been shifted from exciting footpaths to convenient spots or replaced with new spun pole structure.In an affidavit, TM shivpraksh, general manager (electrical), procurement, said of the toatal 2,587 DTCs identified, work pertaining to shifting of the remaining 676 would be completed by September. He added that since the last monthly progress report, 134 DTCs have brrn shifted or replaced with new spun pole structures.Taking the affidavit on record, a division bench headed by chief justice prasanna B varale asked Bescom t continue to sumit monthly status report and adjourned the hearing to august.The court is hearing a PIL filed by retired Wing Commander GB Athri in 2020. The petitioner claimed that installation of these electrical installations on roads\ footpaths not only poses grave danger to human lives but also amounts to human rights violations. Athri sought for their removal as well as relocation within a time schedule so as to prevent danger to pedestrians.
