Ather Energy seems to be working on a new entry-level e-scooter for the Indian market, as recently a test mule of a new electric scooter was spotted testing in BTM Layout, Bengaluru. The new Ather electric scooter could be Ather’s answer to the Ola S1 Air.
New Ather 450 Electric Scooter: What’s new?
The new e-scooter is expected to be the most affordable offering from Ather in India. It is likely to be positioned below the 450 Plus, and in all probability, could carry the Ather 450 nomenclature along with a suffix to it. The test unit looks strikingly similar to the existing Ather 450 but is likely to get a smaller battery pack and a diminutive features list.
New Ather 450 Electric Scooter: Battery pack and range
Given that the Ather 450X Gen-3 recently received a comprehensive update, it is wise to expect the new entry-level electric scooter to feature a battery pack that is smaller than the 3.7kWh unit on the third-gen model. Expectedly, the e-scooter could get a range of up to 80km on a single charge.
New Ather 450 Electric Scooter: Features
Although the new scooter will be an entry point into the Ather brand, it is expected to retain the seven-inch touchscreen instrument console from its elder sibling. It is also likely to come with the Google integration suite, and some connectivity features like geo-fencing, GPS navigation etc. Other features could include an LED headlamp, indicators and taillight.
New Ather 450 Electric Scooter: Hardware
Since the new Ather scooter will be an affordable offering, the electric scooter is expected to be underpinned by a cost-effective tubular chassis, as opposed to the aluminium space frame that the 450X and 450 Plus get. However, suspension tasks will be shouldered by telescopic forks up front, and a mono-shock at the rear.
New Ather 450 Electric Scooter: Launch date and price
Although the official launch date of the new Ather electric scooter is unknown, we can expect it to be launched sometime in near future. As mentioned earlier, the new scooter will be the most affordable offering from Ather and is likely to come with a sub-Rs 1 lakh pricing (ex-showroom), post subsidies.
