05 Feb 2025

JSW Steel, Jindal Steel and Power, Western Coalfields (a subsidiary of Coal India), Adani Natural Resources, and Damodar Valley Corporation are among the 46 companies that have placed bids for 20 coal blocks out of the 27 offered in the 11th round of auctions for commercial mining.

According to the coal ministry, the companies submitted a total of 70 bids, suggesting that some bidders sought multiple blocks. The offered blocks were primarily for non-coking coal, with the exception of one block, which was for coking coal. "This round has garnered an unprecedented response from the bidders," the ministry statement stated.

Over 15 new companies, including a subsidiary of Coal India, have taken part for the first time in the commercial coal mine auction. Other notable companies submitting bids include Bharat Aluminium Company, the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation, Orissa Metaliks, Lloyds Metal, and Odisha Coal and Power.

The bids will be assessed by a multi-disciplinary technical evaluation committee. Bidders who meet the technical qualifications will be shortlisted for participation in the electronic auction, which will be held on the MSTC portal.
