Uttarakhand Hydropower Authority to Implement AI for Improved Operational Efficiency

27 Nov 2024

Uttarakhand's state hydropower generation agency, Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL), is set to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its operations to improve efficiency and reduce time, according to its Managing Director, Sandeep Singhal. He further stated that this initiative will help the organisation complete projects on schedule, even in challenging and unfavourable conditions.

Singhal said, "By leveraging AI and strategic planning, UJVNL can enhance its project operations' efficiency, optimise power transmission and distribution, and achieve time savings and cost reductions." UJVNL's Public Relations Officer, Vimal Dabral, provided additional details, stating that the AI to be implemented will be open source.

"Once implemented, the focus will shift to operations, allowing us to assess the lifespan of machinery in our projects and perform necessary repairs as needed. This initiative will be carried out in collaboration with the Project Management Institute North India Chapter, an NGO-driven organisation dedicated to researching strategic management and AI applications in public sector enterprises," Dabral said.
