AQI, a Matter of Concern, Discom Halt Work on Power Infra Upgradation

27 Nov 2024

Power distribution companies (Discoms) have temporarily halted power infrastructure development projects due to the drop in pollution levels across the NCR region. Meanwhile, the power department will offer partial payments and load enhancement services to consumers via the Nivesh Mitra portal.

Harish Bansal, chief engineer of the Noida power department, PVVNL, said, "We have been focused on strengthening the power infrastructure in the district on a large scale through various business initiatives. As part of this effort, we are not only expanding the capacity of power lines but also upgrading the capacity of power substations. Moreover, transformers are also being installed to alleviate the load on overloaded units. To facilitate this, we have been conducting planned shutdowns in various areas. However, this has been temporarily halted and will resume once pollution levels improve."

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has provided a partial payment facility to consumers to prevent disconnection of their service. Under this, Lifeline service consumers are allowed to pay a minimum limit of 10% of the outstanding amount or Rs 25,000 (whichever is higher).
