Luminous Power Technologies has commissioned its first lithium-ion battery assembly line at the company’s manufacturing facility in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, marking a key step in expanding its advanced energy storage capabilities.
The new assembly line has an annual production capacity of 500 MWh and uses robotic automation and precision manufacturing systems to produce lithium-ion battery packs. It is designed to support a broad range of applications, including standalone battery packs, stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and automotive battery packs for e-rickshaw use, with individual pack capacities ranging from 1.2 kWh to 16 kWh and system-level scalability up to 1 MWh.
The facility also incorporates end-to-end digital traceability in line with the latest Battery Aadhaar requirements, enabling full lifecycle tracking of each battery pack, enhancing quality control and regulatory compliance.
Company executives said the assembly line strengthens Luminous’ integrated manufacturing footprint and global supply chain, supporting the company’s focus on localised, technology-led production. They also highlighted the line’s role in enabling reliable, scalable energy storage solutions that can serve residential, commercial and industrial segments as well as electric mobility.
Beyond production, Luminous expects the new facility to contribute to broader sustainability objectives by supporting renewable energy storage, reducing carbon emissions through wider adoption of electric vehicles and grid storage applications, and improving manufacturing efficiency through automation. It is also projected to generate employment opportunities in the region.
The commissioning of this battery assembly line positions Luminous to further its role in India’s evolving energy storage ecosystem as demand for lithium-ion solutions continues to grow.
