Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and ADNOC Gas have entered into a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement, marking a significant step in strengthening energy cooperation between India and the United Arab Emirates.

Under the 10-year agreement, ADNOC Gas will supply around 0.5 million tonnes of LNG annually to HPCL. Deliveries are scheduled to commence from 2028, providing a stable and reliable source of natural gas to support India’s growing energy requirements. The LNG will be received at HPCL’s Chhara LNG terminal in Gujarat, which has a regasification capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum.

The supplied LNG will cater to multiple segments, including HPCL’s refinery operations, city gas distribution networks, and industrial consumers such as fertiliser, power and petrochemical sectors. The agreement is expected to enhance India’s energy security while supporting the country’s transition towards cleaner fuels by increasing the share of natural gas in its overall energy mix.

Officials described the deal as a milestone in bilateral energy relations, reinforcing the UAE’s role as a key long-term energy partner for India. The agreement also supports broader economic and strategic ties between the two countries, particularly in the areas of energy infrastructure and sustainable development.

The long-term nature of the contract provides supply certainty for HPCL while aligning with India’s objectives of fuel diversification, emissions reduction and sustained economic growth.
