The Ministry of Coal has issued vesting orders for five coal blocks under the ongoing commercial coal mine auction process, marking another step forward in India’s efforts to enhance domestic coal production and promote private sector participation in the mining sector.
These vesting orders officially transfer the rights, licenses, and clearances of the allotted coal blocks to the successful bidders, enabling them to commence mine development and production activities. The awarded blocks are spread across key coal-bearing states, including Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Odisha, and are expected to contribute significantly to India’s energy security once operational.
According to the Ministry, the cumulative peak rated capacity (PRC) of these five coal mines is projected to add several million tonnes annually to the country’s total coal output, supporting both industrial and power generation needs.
This move is part of the government’s broader initiative to unlock the commercial potential of India’s coal resources, reduce import dependency, and create local employment opportunities in mining regions.
