Genus Power has crossed a major milestone in India’s smart metering drive, deploying 1 crore smart meters under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). The achievement underscores the company’s role as a leading Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP) supporting large-scale discom reforms.
The installations span nine states, highlighting Genus Power’s pan-India execution capability and its contribution to accelerating smart metering adoption across major distribution companies, the company said in an official release.
Genus Power has further strengthened its manufacturing base with a new integrated facility at Kotputli (Rajasthan), complementing its existing units in Jaipur (Rajasthan), Haridwar (Uttarakhand), and Guwahati (Assam). The expansion is aimed at enhancing production capacity to support India’s grid modernization and digital energy transition.
With 2.5 crore smart meters currently operational across India—out of nearly 5.62 crore deployed nationwide—Genus Power has reinforced its position as a leading smart metering technology provider. The scale of deployment is backed by the company’s integrated capabilities across design, manufacturing, communication technologies, execution, and long-term system reliability.
According to the release, widespread smart meter adoption is improving consumer experience through higher billing accuracy, greater transparency, faster grievance resolution, and real-time consumption visibility. These benefits enable households and businesses to better manage energy usage.
Commenting on the milestone, Jitendra Kumar Agarwal, Joint Managing Director, Genus Power, said, “Crossing the 1 crore smart meter mark is a defining moment not just for Genus Power, but for India’s power distribution transformation. RDSS represents the largest smart metering rollouts globally, and this milestone reflects the sector’s clear shift toward system resilience and execution at scale.”
He added that the progress reflects confidence in sectoral reforms and India’s domestic manufacturing capabilities, noting that Genus Power is working on a “war-footing” to support utilities as smart metering enters a critical phase.
As smart meter penetration increases, Genus Power said it is helping build a robust digital backbone for India’s power infrastructure. The technology supports improved grid planning, efficient peak-demand management, loss reduction, and renewable energy integration at scale.
Under RDSS, India targets the replacement of 25 crore conventional meters with smart meters by 2028. Genus Power continues to position itself as a trusted partner in advancing the objectives of the National Smart Grid Mission.
Beyond India, Genus Power is expanding its footprint across Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, the Pacific, and SAARC markets. Supported by strong hardware capabilities and a 300+ member software team, the company delivers end-to-end digital and metering solutions for utilities globally, the release stated.
